Ella is heartbroken at the passing of Leo, the owner of the used-book store she’s been working at most of her life in New York City. Leo had been showing her the ropes and promised the store would be hers when he was gone. When Leo’s estranged grandson Henry shows up, declaring himself the new owner, Ella is crushed. Henry grew up knowing he would one day inherit the Last Page, whether he wanted to or not. He’s not quite ready to leave his job, family, and home in Tennessee to take over a failing bookstore with an unwelcoming staff in New York City. However, as Ella and Henry put aside their differences to save the shop, they fall head over heels in love. Despite the depth of their relationship, for Henry this is a temporary mission, as he plans to return home in a few months. VERDICT Holt’s (Not in My Book) novel has so much to savor: a large cast of lively characters, laugh-out-loud banter, a whimsical bookshop setting, an excellently executed slow-burn enemies-to-lovers storyline, and a bustling backdrop. Recommended for fans of emotional, steamy, bookish romances with strong Latine leads.
